Andrew Neldon

Andrew is a native of Morgantown, WV, where he earned Bachelor’s (2009) and Master’s (2011) degrees in Music Education from West Virginia University. During his studies, he focused on the pedagogy and performance of classical and ethnic percussion instruments such as, Marimba, Xylophone, Vibraphone, Timpani, Snare Drum, Drumset, Taiko Drums, Steel Drums, hand drums, and many others. He performed with the WVU Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, Marching Band, Big Band, Steel Band, along with the Taiko, MIDI, African Drum and Dance, and Percussion Ensembles. Andrew also taught the Steel Band and Percussion Ensemble as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. He taught and arranged steel band music for the Wheeling Park and Wheeling Middle School steel bands, located in Wheeling, West Virginia, during his student teaching internship. Andrew has taught high school and middle school drumlines, percussion ensembles, concert bands, jazz ensembles, and was the percussion director at the CAMP and Career’s summer arts camp in Marathon, Florida in 2010. Andrew currently resides in Denver, Colorado where he is an active performer, teaches private music lessons and composes and publishes original modern steel drum music.

Chris Carter

Chris is a fun, exciting young teacher with plenty of experience. He teaches primarily at Allegro Music, where he helps people of all ages learn their favorite rock and roll riffs. He knows how to jam, too; he has years of band experience, including the now-defunct Natural Geometry (check them out here). Of course, he’s also a great teacher for music theory and has a great guitar technique. If you want to take your guitar to the next level, Chris is the teacher for you!

Rick Henson

I’ve been drumming up business *bah-dum-bump-ching!* in the Front Range region since 1993, performing with symphonic orchestras, theater productions, and, of course, rock bands.  This breadth of percussive experience — including studies at the University of Northern Colorado — created the backdrop for discovering my greatest passion: steel drums.  My steel drum school, Rocky Mountain Steel Bands, has grown to include four community performance groups and several beginner/intermediate classes.
I also direct two professional bands — Strings & Steel and Urban Island — which have appeared at festivals, headline concerts, and private events throughout 5 states in the U.S. and in Costa Rica. I’m also on the Vic Firth Education Team and SABIAN Education Network.

My students learn the important fundamentals to perform songs they love in a friendly and relaxed environment.  Many of my current students have been learning from me for several years, and the consistent feedback is that my lessons are fun and engaging.  I actively seek innovative methods for sharing my love of music. What excites me the most is that moment of triumph I witness when a student masters some new, difficult technique!
