Our Classes

We currently offer a huge variety of classes for adults and youth, age 6-17. Some of the classes we offer include:

Intro Session

The “Crash Course” is like a steel drum intro season. It’s a fun, hands-on session that will give you a feel for what it’s like playing in a steel drum band. In just 1 hour you’ll get to try several different steel drums and play along side other RMSB members. You’ll leave knowing 1 or 2 songs and have a steel drum experience to remember. These are perfect if you:
  • Just want to TRY steel drum
  • are looking for a fun weekend event, or
  • don’t want a weekly commitment Join our newsletter to make sure you don’t miss it.
No commitment, just a fun night of steel drums. If you love playing steel drums as much as I do, you start coming to our weekly rehearsals. Maybe even join one of our exciting performing ensembles!

Beginning Steel Band

This is the place to start if you’ve never played steel drums or have just played a few months. We spend lots of time going over the basics and learning the instrument while playing fun songs.

The tuition includes everything you need for class like music and the steel drums.

Classes for kids

We’ve expanded and now offer many classes for kids. Everything from Jumbie Jams, Hand Drumming, and of course Steel Drums.

Hand Pans

You’ve seen the viral videos online. Now you can finally try a hand pan for yourself! I’m teaching private lessons on hand pans. You can use one of my hand pans during your lesson. Then, I’ll give you materials and patterns to practice before your next lesson.

The Hand Pan, also called Hang Drum, Space Pan, or Halo, ( as well as handpan or spaceman) is becoming a very popular instrument. Many builders have wait times of several months or even years. It’s unique sound and relative ease of play makes it a great instrument to make music by yourself or with others.

I have just a couple hours open right now for just a select number of hang drum students.
